Washing it away
Nem watched as the shopkeeper closed up. She had arrived just in time. It was then that a slight movement from the corner of the shop caught her eye.
She was not alone. She cursed as she would have to factor the possibility of another thief in her plans. Although it wasn't unheard of, it also wasn't that common, and things went much smoother when alone.
Once the shopkeeper was out of sight, she crept along the shadows towards the shop, careful to keep an eye on the other thief. She frowned when the thief advanced towards the jewelry she had eyed. This really would complicate things, as she had no intention of letting him take what she wanted.
Seconds later, she was in the shop, just like the other thief. She quickly set up a simple distraction, making sure to set it off only after she was a good distance away. It worked like a charm, for when the thief heard the slight noise, he went to investigate, giving her all the time she needed. She quickly took the jewel and left, a smile on her lips.
It was only after she left that she realized the necklace she had was actually a fake! The thief had beat her to swapping out the piece of jewelry. She cursed and headed back to tail the other thief. He wasn't going to get away that easily.
Unfortunately, this led her to another part of town she rarely visited: Kady's Bar.
